In the first year after my husband and I bought our house, we kept having the security system’s smoke alarm go off, and it would auto-alert the fire department. A mess, repeatedly.
Literally the same dude would show up, sigh, and be like “you cool?” And I’d be like, “yeah, sorry.”
Eventually I was like… let’s just remove that one. It’s always the problem, it’s too close to the stove. The so-called experts installed it, but from experience it was wrong. So we outed it. Just that one.
And we did, and the problem went away forever. For us and for the firemen.
Sometimes it’s the rules that are the problem. Not the rules’ breaker. Test everything.
Stop cooking smoky things that’s the lesson. I’m just joking 😁

Lyn left out that the alarm would still go off occasionally when they weren't cooking because she's a total smokeshow and drops 🔥 wherever she goes!

We did the same in our home. Our remodel required (code/rules) new hardwired smoke alarms throughout the whole home and in particular places. They went off all the time for no reason. We took them out. Kept one.

Two weeks ago, I got a letter from my landlords, informing me that abuse of fire alarms is gonna be fined blablabla.
I got the letter one week after my alarm next to the kitchen went off when I made a steak (don't judge my cooking techniques).
Alarm is connected to some central entity and I immediately pushed the "off" button when I noticed it.
I am still not sure what to think of this letter.. On the one hand I of course like fire protection, but I still felt somewhat violated in my privacy by receiving a letter from the landlord just because I heated my oil too much.
How many other rules do we follow blindly, that cause more headaches than solutions. Read between the lines.
We have only one fire alarm on the main floor, and it goes off every time we use the stove (cast iron). Unfortunately its hard wired (and I want it hard wired.) You just inspired me to run the wire somewhere else.
Sometimes it's the "experts", in this case it was.

I have never worked with home system but at larger scale has options of algorithmic versions that recognizes if it is an fire or regular dust/smoke
Your expert may not have been expert enough. As a professional, you should never use a smoke detector in a kitchen. A rate-of-rise heat detector is the correct choice. If the smoke detector in kitchens are required by local codes, HOA, insurance, etc. then I’d ask for an exception with this as the alternative.

Damn right. I've always had an insubordinate streak in that I've always disregarded rules that don't make sense. Sometimes this would get me in to trouble (especially in my youth). I think a lot of people take things too far by conflating legal with moral, and confuse rule-following with being a good person.

I relate. Sometime, just opening the over door (when empty) is enough to trigger our alarm. At least it is not connected to a central like you.
Same thing happened with our downstairs tenant. She set off the fire alarm multiple times a months and with a 1 year old kid it caused havoc. Despite being told numerous times that it was "code" to have multiple of these damn things in a small 2 bedroom basement apartment we just said to hell with it and removed the one causing most offence. Everyone is sleeping well now. Screw their code!

The trick is getting the 'overpsid' professionals to openly assume responsibility for the alternative design. Expressing such assumptions numerically, openly, & simply pulls out a seat for AI at the design table --and will question the utility of many timid design, ITM construction professionals.
