Every building code of consequence that I know of, offers 'Alternative Methods & Materials.'.   The trick is getting the 'overpsid' professionals to openly  assume responsibility for the alternative design.   Expressing such assumptions numerically, openly, & simply  pulls out a seat for AI at the design table --and will question the utility of many timid design,  ITM construction professionals.
