Yes. Nostr is where normies will come once they get burned by their current stove and start looking for an alternative. Even then they still need to do the work to understand why nostr is unique and is home.

I didn't catch your talk in Tokyo so I'm listening to it now. I agree that we need to provide powerful mechanisms for feed curation, including as communities that moderate content, as friends that flag content, etc. Feed curation gets even more complicated than just "community norms" though. I don't want to see nudity when I'm working because it is potentially distracting. But after work I'm fine with nudity. Gossip now has lists, so you can choose what kind of content you want to see right now, and switch to something else later. Gossip has "sensitive content" warnings. Gossip has person-muting and thread-muting. Gossip has spam filtering via script too. But it needs more. I think NIP-32 labelling is a good idea but can't be programmed against without a hard ontology. NIP-56 reporting is a good idea but has a too-simple ontology. NIP-72 moderated communities are too siloed and won't include most of the people I want to follow. So gossip doesn't do any of this yet .. I'm waiting on a better solution to be proposed first. I don't care if we aren't growing (I don't need growth to pay the bills), as I've mentioned multiple times now, but I guess I would care if we shrunk and withered away.

I don't understand users feeling they need centralized moderation. On nostr, and really most social media to be honest, you are basically your own moderator. If you don't want to see some material then you don't follow the people that post it. Very easy.

That's the thing about triage. You can only save the people you can save. Time and energy is limited, I only talk about alt tech if people bring it up. If they don't use it, I don't mention it again. I've got stuff to get done..

I can't remember who posted it, but fairly recently someone opined that Nostr should focus on serving the need of their current userbase. Which are predominantly Bitcoiners (I don't have figure, but this seems to be the case to me).

I definitely disagree with this. Bringing mainstream users onboard is crucial for several reasons. Mass adoption is what ultimately drives network growth and innovation. Mainstream adoption is important to Nostr becoming resilient against centralization pressures. ‘Normies’ are integral to achieving widespread acceptance and understanding of new technology. Inclusivity is the cornerstone of any platform aiming for long-term success.

Let's build a bot, Central Nostr Operator, the CNO of Nostr, and you tag him when you like to complain about something. It then starts a chat with you, saying he is sorry for your negative experience with Nostr and that qualified staff is about to have a look at it. Might take some days as there is a lot going on. And then never write again. Normies like to be listened to. When an npub tagged CNO five times nodes are informed to blacklist the npub 😂
