(imo) New user experience isn't as big a deal as content, UX is an obvious hurdle tho. But bluesky is a bit fiddly and a bit buggy and still people join and stay. Discord is a flipping nightmare to work out too, just as another example. (These are both bigger brands tho, most people haven't even heard of nostr, that is obviously another factor). But it seems like the content is the main problem, and I'm not sure there is a way around this unless a community (/communities) decides to make a home here, communities around an interest outside of bitcoin that is. You see the complaints quite often about content being bitcoin-only or 99% bitcoin. I would be curious to see what a feed would look like if you filtered out all bitcoin and bitcoin-related words (stack, sats, hodl etc etc). It might look quite bare. Not sure most people browsing will stay for 400 people saying 'stack sats and stay humble' everyday. In short, nostr needs 'normies' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ lol
I think it goes a little beyond being "just bitcoin content". It's true there's still a LOT of bitcoin content on nostr, but one thing to also note is most of the popular users here are vocal bitcoiners. Not only that most of the recommendations of who to follow to new nostriches are... vocal bitcoiners. But like you said, until there are communities of normies that not only join, but stick around to actually use nostr, that problem won't be solved.
No, for sure it's not ONLY but you can see how a new user would have that impression, and tbf they're not that wrong, maybe predominantly would be a better word. I think that's a fair impression. And I agree as you say, client recommendations of users and trending posts are not remotely enticing unless you came here for bitcoin content / memes / slogans, which is really not what most 'normie' users are looking for. (I'm using 'normie' slightly grudgingly here, as I don't think non bitcoiners are necessarily normies obvs, I think we can all agree on that lol). Having a little go on satellite.earth and their community section makes me more hopeful, obviously it's still a bit rusty, but I can see it being v useful
Oh absolutely. That's why most "normies" back out when they join or don't bother joining at all. Unfortunately, nostr is in the "chicken and egg" phase so it's kind of difficult to pull in enough new and "normal" users to help diversify content enough to start a chain reaction. Sadly content isn't the only issue nostr has right now.
Yeah, this was sort of my initial point. I think a lot is forgiven, especially as something is being built if there is the pull of content/community, within reason of course, it has to be mostly usable lol.
