This is purely a demographic thing, don't try to be interested or talk about things you don't care about THAT will 1000% come across as fake. It's simply that most people who came here, becuase the people who saw how bad this problem was and had the tools to actually fix it... *were* bitcoiners, and they are excited about #nostr. Waht I'm getting at is that the solution isn't to stop talking about what you like or posting about other stuff arbitrarily. The solution is to bring other people to this place that aren't bitcoin and #nostr fanatics. If we just get annoyed with people for liking what they like, we will have exactly zero success in making any change. Exactly, don't try to be something because it's needed and dont try to avoid talking about something because other people are already talking about it. #Nostr is about the ability to truly be authentic without being controlled and manipulated. So be that. 👏

I could not agree more. This is the reason I avoided Nostr till this point. Concerns over concentration of similar ideas. Without the diversity of opinion we end up with a little echo chamber of back slapping that looks like a cult to anyone coming in from the outside. For Nostr to thrive it must be embraced by a wide demographic.

Sure, but it’s axiomatic to networks that they have to start with a small, cohesive group. Calling it an “echo chamber” or avoiding it for that fear is to misunderstand the stage of the network, imo. A larger and larger group around one idea, is *exactly* how you finally get groups that become large enough to have secondary interests and “side groups” begin to naturally develop. In other words, I think we SHOULD be getting as many people as we possibly can who are interested in #Bitcoin, #nostr and censorship resistant social and internet protocols, because that’s exactly how we will get a network large enough to begin fostering the beginnings of thousands of other topics, hobbies, and interests.

People who yell “echo chamber” usually are just deriding the idea of community. The people I’ve met and interacted with because of bitcoin and nostr are probably the most diverse people I’ve even known, spanning across multiple demographics of every sort, and are some of the most intelligent critical thinkers I’ve ever encountered. Yet we find community around certain topics and values. That is not an echo chamber. It is a community.

If they are yelling it’s emotional. The idea of an echo chamber within community is very real. I’ve been exposed to many of them and though they are indeed community they commonly end up with the lot of agreement over the same ideas. Not a bad thing but certainly off putting to those coming in with contrary points of view. All religion tends to end up in such a place. Small discrepancies of view over minor issues but the core tenets are all agreed upon. To be in the community it requires this agreement. It’s neither good or bad, it’s simply insular.

100% this. All of the “we need to do ____ to make Nostr grow” is getting so tiresome. Maybe we should all just sit back and enjoy the fact that we get to communicate and share ideas with people from across the globe and send magic internet money to each other instantly and without permission 🤷‍♂️

I seen this too and thought to myself. Everything else just seems irrelevant. I also seen yesterday people posting their muted list which was all bitcoin and nostr words. If that got traction I would just start saying bitties @Love is Bitcoin 💜⚡ and drive @Mandrik nuts 🤣

lol, she’s just suggesting in good faith what she thinks will help attract more people to #nostr. I just don’t think it’s the right strategy because it’s unrealistic. There’s an easier path, imo.

One of the things I love about nostr is that there's a lot more authentic expression. That suggests to me that the incentives are right. Pure authentic expression is rare these days, especially online. Cyber space used to be the place where people could express themselves authentically. One of the things that's fascinated me for a while is what other interests Bitcoiners have. Bitcoin can be a bit of a litmus test, a way to concentrate signal. I love nostr as it is, right now. I'd also love to see more Bitcoiners talking about what excites them & holds their attention. If that's Bitcoin or nostr then that's fine, as long as it's authentic. Don't be bringing your engagement farming over here though. Some people just need to become more comfortable with enjoying the journey. None of this mess we find ourselves in will be solved quickly.
