Oddbean new post about login | logout @d4b81373 when I had my meter replaced the installer replaced my existing isolator with a new one for free (it had a minor crack in it) Maybe just buy one from Screwfix or wherever, screw it to the backboard and offer good quality biscuits with tea
@438f0a8f @d4b81373 when we had the meter in the pub done I bought an isolator and fitted it to the board — the UKPN guys were happy to wire into that.

@d4b81373 @88f809c5 meter fitter probably won't touch that as it would require messing with the cutout. If it's that decrepit they'll code it as dangerous and DNO/DNO contractor will have to come out
@438f0a8f @88f809c5 There's no meter fitter involved yet - they won't replace the meters until I get the cutout and backboard sorted.
@d4b81373 @438f0a8f ah, fun times... the sparky/supplier/DNO dance. Like awaiting a conjunction of the planets. That reminds me: it was the DNO fitting a new incomer who wired the meter tails into our isolator. We did a dodgy thing and actually detached the original incomer and meter from the crumbling backboard, and hung them from the joists. (Pulled the main fuse to fit a temporary CU.) Then fitted the new board and got the DNO to fix the new incomer and old meter to that.
@88f809c5 @d4b81373 it's essentially a requirement that all pubs have deathtrap electrical installations so you can only be improving things... I'm happy to fool around with most things but would generally steer well clear of the cutout and service cable, particularly if old. There's a lot that can go wrong
@438f0a8f @d4b81373 yeah, we had the problem that nobody was keen to touch it as it was given the back board was disintegrating. The incoming cable is super gnarly, DNO guys treated it like it was an archaeological discovery. Entire place has now been rewired, there was some seriously dodgy old shit for sure. Went from this to this sorta photos attached. (Will be somewhat neater and all in a cabinet eventually.
