I’m here to learn but come from a different tradition. Why is giving money considered #MutualAid in the US? Places I’ve been at people would give clothes, build things together, cook in communal kitchens etc, but it was considered politically bad form to give money because it’s a transactional relationship. The recipient of mutual aid has to actually give some as well, to the best of their ability. MA is political and strategic, not ameliorative. Any readings folks can suggest?
@ffce1ad2 it's just a branding exercise leftist groups here do to avoid calling it a charity drive. I agree reciprocity (or expectation of such in the future) is a core component of mutual aid. Me sending money to people is not that.
