@484aac85 @4464071c I think it depends on where one lives. In a larger city, one must drive in awful traffic to get somewhere, anywhere. People out of necessity must structure their time, and "guest events" are more structured too, like having someone over for brunch, or dinner. When I lived more recently in a small town (5k people), "stopping by" was a frequent and welcome event! In even smaller towns, it's acceptable to go through unlocked doors to leave a note on kitchen table. 😊
@0487304b @484aac85 @4464071c think it's mostly how easy it is to stop. Amsterdam is huge but because we walk/bike everywhere it's easy to check if someone's home. In the small village where I grew up it also works fine by car because there's usually a free spot in the street.
