You get self esteem by doing things that are worthy of esteem and then telling no one. New PR in the gym? Tell no one. Just made a million dollars? Tell no one. Have an amazing sex life? Tell no one. Promotion at work? Tell no one. Lost 50lbs? Tell no one. People might notice some of these things or changes you’ve made and that’s ok. Don’t be weird about it. If they comment say thank you and keep going. The reason you tell no one is so that you can switch your reference point from external to internal. Let others see the results. Don’t announce them. Anything you have that is enviable others will brag for you.
Also, biochemistry dictates that you get a dopamine hit when you tell other people. That dopamine hit is actually detrimental to progress as it places the high on the telling and not the doing. This leads to worse outcomes over time, more "cheating" on your goals and less likely to push to do it as hard.
I just lost 50 lbs achieving a new PR fucking my wife so good, she gave me a promotion at work and now I make a million dollars.
True; however announcing them can hold you accountable and push you further than you would go by “hiding” your personal goals and failures.
Merit to accountability. However telling others about your goals often gives a quick dopamine release that creates a false sense of accomplishment. I agree with @HODL do the work and say nothing, this will create true self esteem
Love this. Hard to deprogram
I agree with this
Fantastic note. Your rhetorical gift is, well, enviable. One of Naval’s better fortune cookies is this: self esteem is the reputation you have with yourself.
wise words!!! 👍👍👍
Real shit

Lovely advice.. will tell no one.
Let your actions speak for themselves. I agree, it is key ignore the bragging internally.
I agree. But I would not set it as dogma. There are situations where it makes sense to talk about your skills and accomplishments. That's possible to come from your internal point of reference aswell.
A million Dollars?🤢🤢🤢🤮 Wrong Unit of account Geez
We're all glad you have an amazing sex life hodl 🤙
I have four kids lol you can deduce the rest 😂
Dang man I'm proud of you for real
Bastard 😂
Great advise. I suppose bitcoin also teaches you to keep your mouth shut and not brag, because eeeeverybody wants to know how much you’ve got, but you end up developing the knee jerk reaction “not enough” response. I think that eventually also plays a role in quelling the need you might feel to brag about any other aspects or achievements in your life.
Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. Matthew
