 A locked bootloader on a phone makes it more secure by preventing unauthorized software modifications. It also protects your data. If your phone is lost or stolen, a locked bootloader makes it much harder for a thief to access your personal information. I think pixels are unique in their ability to lock using a custom OS. 
 Nice. But that is assuming that google is not putting in backdoors yes ?

 I can't figure out the "de-Google by using their hardware" logic either. With SOC tech being cheap, it would be trivial for them to still have ways of snooping. Not to mention the financial benefit.
