Optics should be fine, sensor perhaps less so. 

 I’m not gonna point it at the sun for 20 minutes straight. The million of damage for the few seconds I snap a photo is hardly going to do any damage. I’ve taken pictures of the sun and spent a few minutes trying to get the lens flare looking the way I wanted and all that jazz numerous times in the past.
