The holocaust narrative has been a way to keep Europe morally and economically subdued through guilt and to control a strong Germany.

They certainly succeeded.

You will understand if you are a bit intelligent that I am not defending the Nazis, just unpacking the logic behind the Holocaust narrative and its promotion through film, literature and politics.

The reality if you dig a little, is that even more people died in the Soviet gulags than in the concentration camps, yet no movies are made about it.

 Don't forget the 1,000,000+ ordinary German POWs who were starved to death and buried in mass graves in the Rhine Valley, under the direction of General Eisenhower.

 Where I'm from (post communist europe), the gulags were/are as terrifying (if not more) as the concentration camps in the "collective mind". 

 We got a lite version of the soviet ones, political prisoners were dying in uranium mines (for example). Just imagine a nasty set of lefties from twitter deciding your fate in deadly conditions of a mine not designed "in safety in mind" and where your live had negative value.

This is thankfully just a distant past in this part of the world, but I'm sure it's still happening in some countries.

"A russian work camp" is not an unusual setting for hollywood or netflix etc. Of course it's often a very superficial version of such thing. But it exists and it's probably used more than nazi cc. Probably. That said nazis got the more "glamorous" spot - being the feature. Gulags are more of a "generic cold miserable place" playground.

I'm more interested in how the Allies & Soviets punished the German population for Hitler's crimes. This is the part that is rarely told by history books.
