I'd say it's likely to be less bad due excluding the risk of bio-accumulation of things. I suspect fish oil is cheaper because most fish oil is made from the waste of fish processing. Algae oil production is probably smaller scale too. Some people really like algae oil because it doesn't give them "fish burps" like fish oil can.
