Did you know that Ho Chi Minh wanted every Vietnamese to be able to afford a bowl of pho per day. That was a key plank of his ideology.
They run about 30,000 to 50,000 VND per bowl which is ~2 hours work for their lowest skilled labour like security guards.
I didnt know that. To me its the best food ive ever had and ive had alot of different foods from years of working in high end and fine dining places. but nothing compares to pho. i could eat it everyday
Vietnamese joke about the people from Mekong Delta. They are their backwards lazy bumpkins because it’s impossible to starve there, everything grows easy so they just live and eat pho all the time whilst everyone else has to work.
Pho is their poor people food. Not banh mi; bread is a luxury. Not even broken rice.
Pho they never get bored of and get everything they need in one meal.
