Unity’s license change not only screws their customers, but the larger ecosystems
Now everyone needs to put guardrails in place against a greedy executive that might want to double tax you
The only way to stop this cancer from spreading is for it to fail abysmally
Do your part
@80f08b97 there is no upside for the ecosystem:
1. Everyone goes pay with expensive terms
2. Everyone builds weird rails to prevent those terms manifesting in their platform
3. There ends up being less competition resulting in atrophy or (1).
@80f08b97 I’m so tired of greedy primitive scumbags who somehow always crawl to the top and ruin things for everybody else. In russian there’s a saying “shit always floats to the top”.
@80f08b97 all developers need to re-architect their software so they can dump bad vendors
@80f08b97 companies stop making stupid decisions that obviously screw themselves over and ruin their niche and good will for no reason challenge (impossible)
@80f08b97
I say look to open source solutions everywhere you can. It has its own set of problems, but at least sociopath CEOs aren’t nearly an issue.
oday it was a mandatory runtime fee. Tomorrow it might be mandatory revenue share. Or higher prices.
They will just keep extracting value for as long as the market lets them. And they got a captive audience they can milk.
Plan accordingly.
