The world changes much quicker now compared to the past, thanks to instantaneous media access, and children's socialization being completely altered now that most are given unrestricted internet access from a young age.
Now, most elderly have very little wisdom that is accurate or relevant. It's nice to hear stories about your grandpa recalling how he 'courted' his wife, but that reality, the country that existed for him in 1935 is dead and buried, for decades now.

Freaky isn't it? Eeveryone is scared of talking and being talked to for no apparent reason now.
They're worried about being recorded and having that interaction preserved forever.
