I'm not a miner, but I've been looking into it, a little. The Avalon Nano 3 also looks like a good alternative for a low cost setup. It gets into the more competitive TH/s rates and can join mining pools for just about 2x the cost of the Bitaxe. I think it also comes with some kind of voucher that helps with onboarding to a pool. https://bitcoinmerch.com/products/avalon-nano-3-the-ultimate-bitcoin-enabled-smart-home-solution-1?variant=44780914016486
Me either, I did watch a few things on the Avalon though, but it seemed a bit much for me right now. I think for the hobby/lottery/decentralized ethos once I saw the bitaxe I saw something I could sit on top of my desktop tower under my desk at work. Just to mess around with. I'm not expecting to mine a block. My shitty node can at least still verify my transactions if I mess it up.
