That's how elitism usually works. It's an attention funnel. More people arriving hardly changes who the elites are, it merely adds more people deferring to the same elites. Celebrities are famous for being famous.

Well, they don't actually ask to get on the lists, but being on the list would probably make you lazier.
I notice it, myself. The more followers I have, and the more often I trend, the harder I have to work to stay pleb. So, this list is also a reminder to myself to stay humble.

But there are actually large npubs who rarely engage. They got a lot of follows when they arrived, and just kept them because most people never curate their list. Also, newbies often copy other people's lists, so they take on and follow those npubs, even if they're not actively engaging.
Absolutely true! I have started to unfollow any hig users that doesn't reply to comments or never boost others..

Those are the "recommended npubs" from Primal. They just write the list themselves. The tried to plebicize it, once, but it just ended up a slightly-longer list, with the same sort of entries.
Indeed.. I do remember that note. Much better when a single users put down his best follows without none asking.. we used to that in the first months. #plebchain was a great and organic method to create a nice follow list.. few.

I don't think it's directly fixable, TBH. You can only create new types of use cases and someone could make a name for themselves there, so that you end up with smaller hierarchies where the elites aren't automatically at the top. You can't go back and reorder a social media hierarchy. They just compound, like interest. Every person who shows up will follow the same people as everyone else and add a few more, so first come, first serve. Social media has such a low barrier to entry (post "GM", "stack sats", or a selfie or AI pic, once per week or month) that there's no real way to catch up through effort or talent. You have to shine someplace else and that might carry back over to social media because we don't have silos.
I see, yeah you are right about the compound effect.. For this reason on my side, when i noticed new user on my notifications or comments, I try to check through their notes and repost notes I liked. Repost is so underrated.. one repost is much more valuable than a 1000 sats if reposted at the right time by an account with more followers.

Th why I dp believe was because of the issue for new users to not follow anyone.. but I do believe would better to create a list that changes depending on hastag, or topic or words nost used. So like "Show me the users that use #bitcoin words more, or "economic" "nature" "art" and so on.. A static list is nosense..

There should be only DEV as first follow.. the main one that worked on nostr clients and protocol.. that's the only "elite" I would be ok to be shilled.. they do the work, they often are not acknowledged.
As a dev, I disagree with this. I think it's far far better to provide new accounts categories of hashtags they can follow, or pubkeys that are associated with a topic.

Yeah trending feed is also something I don't like.. easy to fake, and often same people because large follows number and so more replies and reactions.. vicious circle.
I'm almost exclusively on #amethyst... Since I'm on my phone more than anything. Plus I like the functionality of it. I get frustrated with other platforms.
