 yeah apparently its gets expensive to peer 
 Peering itself is relatively cheep (once you have purchased the routers to do it, data centre space to host them, cross connects to the peering exchange etc). The more expensive part is generally the upstream IP transit services to reach the rest of the Internet that you can’t reach through peering. 
 If you could get to me in NC over fiber I could probably be a peer for some traffic…just depends on your bandwidth needs.
