Oddbean new post about login | logout The character and story I'm thinking about today would take place in a post-tech apocalyptic future. A young person obsessed with "science" but with not real idea what science was. Just some notions about how it's supposed to be done, what it ought to be able to do. But the fun part would be if this is enough for them to re-invent a scientific method. Only ... better.
@134318c2 ok but... if my contention that science is a property of COMMUNITY then it's gotta be more than one kid. harder to write a story about. people like to read stories focused on individuals. reminds me of the story of the birth of israel (Exodus to ...) focused on Moses and a wild god, but in reality probly a subtle development in a society as a whole, but people don't know how to tell THAT kind of story!
