It's like using one of those grandfather's computers, barely able to run due to all the bloatware, viruses and never updated. Every two seconds you get a new pop-up to a new porn site. 
Now you can choose to use this computer as a tool for what it's meant to do by replacing the OS, or you can leave it as-is and ignore the distractions and say it's OK for what you want from it.
I can understand your point of frustration: there is a huge issue of having a grand following on a platform that no longer cares about you.
Trusting that people will find you again on a different platform is probably putting too much trust in people....
