you don't know what you can do until you try as far as it goes for walking, 35 miles a day is moderate... best leg powered transit i ever managed was one day in venezia on a bicycle, 110km... damn you muricans... what is that... 85 miles? venezia is very flat i also found it was possible to do this kind of thing in the netherlands but every bit of slope you add to the equation you square root your distance i live in madeira now and the slopes are typically 10-15% grade, sometimes they are so steep you almost can't avoid slipping on a few steps

that's a half marathon... kudos and thus, yes you can do it because i was no athlete when i did it, and it was a nightmare when i came here to madeira and discovered how much less distance i could do because of the slopes, and compound that with all kinds of inflammation from sucralose and UHT milk after that.... omg... there is NOTHING worse than being able to do something and then losing the ability to even manage 20% if it ever happens to you, just remember i told you it was probably because of what you were eating

cutting out seed oils helps a lot with the knees i used to ride skateboards, and in the last few years i could barely manage to jump up or down a yard... i can do that all again now... just keep away from seed oils, modified starches, maltodextrin, artificial sweeteners, and UHT milk - those are all the worst of the things that will ruin your joints and your muscles and most of the damage is actually neuromuscular, literally the nerves aren't sending the signals to the muscles anymore! i only became alert to this because it ruined my vision and yes i'm older now and i have lost my short range distance, used to be about 4" now about 6" minimum distance but i was getting double vision and constant cramps... my mother tells me she gets the cramps too and needs to drink ridiculous amounts of water to stop it no, there is reasons for this, and mostly it's seed oils, and other weird processed shit and artificial sweetners and modified starches (maltodextrin)... just start reading the packets... you'll see that almost nothing in the shop inside a packet is safe to eat
you picking up a running/walking practice?
Shooting for a 50 miler this summer. I've long loved cross country but this is a big step up
If I can offer some advice: 1. Walk early and walk often. 2. Practice your fuel plan. 3. IMO - Time on feet > mileage 4. If you have a crew, incorporate them into your training and give them an aid station checklist to go through. 5. Change socks/shoes as needed (I only did one change on a 100 miler, probably should have done one more). Have fun!!!
I think I've grokked #3, but I'm sure I'll have a hard time on race day. #4 is great advice.

on flat land (not madeira) on average i get 35 miles a day on foot, and i discovered when i did that skipping over railway sleepers i was able to do it for 16 hours a day, for a week, my main food was lard slathered over tiny bits of scavenged bread oh yeah, slathering my feet with lard helped too, because my shoes at the time made my feet damp this was in serbia, and someone saw me at one point doing this and said "this is what the old people do" i had no idea, but i'll just add this data point to your map
