They are a product of twitter having 144/288 characters limit.
Nostr clients naturally suck at rendering threads. And they shouldn't have to.
Long form notes is where long content should exist. But many kind1/twitter-like clients don't know how to handle long form. Maybe they shouldn't have to.
When people like write long form, they often want to advertise it on the kind1 public square. Hi I wrote this amazing thread about the earth being flat, with graphics and all. Fully proven!
Was thinking if something more clever could be done. Like long form notes have an optional added field for "kind1" description/summary in itself.
Then clients that don't know what to do with it would just gracefully degrade to render the kind1 content only with some indication of there is more to this note.

Basically what already happens, 30023's have a `summary` tag which Coracle shows until you expand the note
GM some people need it.. J unlike emojis, hope you will change it on nostr.. The sort notes don't help some person to write finally so many persons can write now and forget all they learned basically.. Thanks and good evening
@Gigi will complain 😅
I also think that short notes linked together have their utility. The UX of commenting selected text could be an improvement but it not easier.
Comments on mid threads notes are literally death
why should there even be more than one kind for text notes? kind 1 text notes have no constraint on length.
it’s artificial constraints mirrored from legacy technical limitations.
if your client doesn’t want to render a wall of text, just show the first n characters same click to expand.
stop being so rational.
additional layers of complexity are needed to give us mailing list topics.
Long form posts on nostr can sometimes be a pain in the butt. If we want longer posts, we need better UX for it too.
This particular app needs to have different language options.
Real talk? Depends on who one is trying to hit …

I didn't read this note because it was too long but I would have read if it was a thread.
In the early Amethyst client there were some formatting bugs that made it almost impossible to write a long note so back then it made sense to write a thread. Since that was fixed, there is clearly no point in writing note threads.
One of the nice things with threads is you can inject your comment into a certain position. Maybe Nostr can replicate that feature, but in long posts in a more elegant way?
thinking along the lines of how Medium would let people highlight a string of text within a post, and then add a comment related to that string.
