Well, maybe this isn’t doing what I want. I meant that I want Face ID required every time I open the app.
I plan to get the new iPhone and I want to open a nostr client using the action button so I can pop straight into nostr from the lock screen

Yeah but if Face ID is not required anyone can get in to your account even when your phone is locked
With iOS 18 you can set any app to require Face ID when opening it. Just long press the app and select.

I don’t have those options on long press. Is this an iOS 18 thing?

What is the passwords app? Is that another iOS 18 thing?

The app is new for iOS 18. While passwords existed before within settings, Apple unified it all with its new passwords app (so that passwords sit alongside verification codes, passwords for WiFi, passkeys, etc).

You can do that from phone settings on certain brands of android phones. I am sure Samsung has it. You can have the OS ask for unlock when opening the app, which is where the fingerprint or face id should come as selection. I am just guessing about the face unlock, I'm sure for the rest, but it could be just a choice between a pass or fingerprint. Also, you can hide the app, so it won't show anywhere unless you search for it.
Not everyone wants this. Obviously you know this as you put option 🫡
Sometimes I wonder if people know that Face ID data only exists on device encrypted in the Secure Enclave. Sure Apple could lie about this, but they would lose all trust and be fucked if this turned out not to be true.
Fair point. Possibly. I see it a bit different. Apple 🍎 users have used Apple products for so long it’s my belief many would prefer to lose another “freedom” than deal with the hassle of having to acquire everything they already own via purchasing from Apple. Sure there would be some outrage initially. Looking at the corruption of the world & how many people willingly allow it, it’s doubtful to me that most would quit using their products.
