I hear there is an amethyst fork out there. Anyone using it?
You referring to the monero client
yes. it's a shitcoin, @AVERAGE_GARY do not sway from the path.
 Ugh. Word.
It's much more private than BTC, though.

I think it's really the only other "cryptocurrency" that I'll ever hold, for it's intended use case of transacting very privately.
 I like ecash better
I still have no clue about how that works as it just sounds like a confused mess to me at this point.
It's privacy preserving digital bearer assets backed by bitcoin
Yes. I kinda get that. But... The use of it seems way too complicated for me to want to bother with.
CashU feels and behaves similar to LN. You can send and receive payment to/from LN flawlessly. It's very simple actually.
I've yet to see anything that is as simple as installing WoS and zapping.
Believe it or not, it's just as simple. In addition, unlike WOS, it integrates with nostr.
What advantage is "integrating with nostr?"

I don't do anything but send zaps with WoS and that's it.
You can send zaps directly from your wallet to nostriches without accessing nostr.
 OK.

I don't see the point of that unless they are in person or something.
You should know this tool. It doesn't have to solve all (or any) of your problems, but it should be familiar and in the toolbox. Grab the nostr:nprofile1qqstxwlea9ah3u6kjjszu6a7lrnhqkfh8eptp2z6v0e9558tlkkl2rgpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcpremhxue69uhkummnw3ez6ur4vgh8wetvd3hhyer9wghxuet59u4kl3vp app and let's do this.
 Eh...

No?
Just let me sway you on it this time for the greater good.
 *sighs* Fine.

Where's the apk for it?

If you say on the play store, that's a hard no.
LOL! Bruh. I ain't using no play store bullshit.

https://github.com/minibits-cash/minibits_wallet
 Installed.

Now what?
Click on your little picture in the corner and give me the address.
 domedknoll96@minibits.cash
I just sent lightning to your address. The mint minted ecash and added ecash tokens to your wallet. Those tokens are like fiat bills. I mailed you $1000 in the form of lots of 1s, 10s, 5s, 20s, etc.
 Got it.
And here's another thing we can do. Bots scrape Nostr looking for those tokens. If I paste it here, they'll grab it. So I break it up with emojis. Copy this, remove the nuts, and get some ecash tokens. This is kind of like me dropping a bunch of random cash bills on the ground and cutting them in half. Tape them back together and redeem them. But somebody else can find them, too. And again, they're from all over the place. We got stripper buttcrack bills, coke straw bills, illegal weapons bills, whatever. Nobody really knows. It's cash.

 Token already spent.

I guess I took too long.
That's what I get for leaving it on the sidewalk for you. 😂

That ecash was stored in my gooch so I hope they enjoy it!

Next step is sending. If you take out any NWC settings, Amethyst will ask you which app to use for zaps each time. Not sure how others handle that. You can just zap from Minibits like WOS. The mint will redeem your ecash for lightning and send the payment. The big difference is that the payment comes from the mint. They don't really know who you are or who is ultimately on the other end.

They could also be sending to another mint to make THAT mint's ecash tokens. You could pay a LN invoice from nostr:nprofile1qqst4qyeqenw7zm0fwjsty68h6cnys5jre2xd8ngqpjv5a2j26s78fspzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumt0d5hsrwx0h6 and they can mint their ecash tokens with it. I can receive these Coinos tokens and store them in my Minibits wallet, also, marked as coming from the Coinos mint. Like cash from other countries, but all denominated in BTC. It's redeemable for BTC at the country/bank that printed it. I DMed you some ecash from the Coinos mint.
 Hwat?
And this is why monero. Because it just works. None of this convoluted stuff.

I love btc. But in order to make it "same as cash" you gotta do all ^ that.

All those hoops just so we can pretend like we didnt just make yet another token, all the while denigrating monero users for being shitcoiners.

Yeah. I think I agree with this even more now.
Those sats were like cash from the fat lady that keeps it in her sweaty bra. You can pick it up off the ground, but that smell is on your hands for life.
OK, I see the two mints in minbits.
So now you have ecash from two different mints. Like cash from two banks, redeemable for BTC at the bank that printed the cash. You can send that ecash as lightning for invoice payments or zaps. You can send it as ecash through any medium that can support a QR or text (ham radio/Meshtastic/messenger app). The bearer of the token owns the ecash. It can be sent/moved physically, offline. I can print a QR code and throw it out the car window for some lucky pleb to find.

Using ecash to transition in and out of KYC BTC is something else you can do. Open a LN channel with BTC, then send sats to the ecash mint. Do whatever you want from there. I'd say privacy is pretty freaking good. You can even run your own mint for friends and family and mix all that in.

You CAN be rugged. But also by WOS or Strike or Alby or whoever.

I'm not saying it's a Monero replacement. I'm saying now you have a hammer, a screwdriver, AND a wrench in the toolbox.
I'll have to figure out how to send later. Work is pretty busy.

It still seems like a lot of extra stuff to just send sats. It's still custodial. I don't see how it provides and extra utility over a regular lightning wallet, though I suppose it's like running a mixer, which is pretty good.
All true. I think it's fair to say that there's more privacy for both sides than a custodial lightning wallet, though. If I open an LNBits wallet for you on my node, I can see every transaction. If you make ecash transactions, I'm reduced to just minting and redeeming. No fine detail.

nostr:nprofile1qqs9pk20ctv9srrg9vr354p03v0rrgsqkpggh2u45va77zz4mu5p6ccpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzv9hxgtcpz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezummcw3ezuer9wchsz9thwden5te0wfjkccte9ejxzmt4wvhxjme0907cz8 or somebody will have to explain some of the crazy new Nostr integrations, but they take it to another level.

Another layer to the onion is not minting from BTC, but from fiat, stablecoins, whatever. Hell, even Monero I suppose. Sky's the limit.

Just run it like WOS for a little bit and you don't even notice all the mint business. It's just sats in and out. If you throw that minibits address in your Nostr client, zaps will go straight to it. Not super different in practice.
 I'll try it.
I missed something big. nostr:nprofile1qqstxwlea9ah3u6kjjszu6a7lrnhqkfh8eptp2z6v0e9558tlkkl2rgpzemhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejz7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcpremhxue69uhkummnw3ez6ur4vgh8wetvd3hhyer9wghxuet59u4kl3vp has NWC available in settings now. Zap and be zapped, with some extra privacy.
How is that different than just using it as I have been?
NWC would let you just make that the default zap wallet for sending. Click the zap button in the client and you're done. No switching apps, etc. It just goes. Then you're receiving to it via that minibits.cash address. Nice and neat.
No clue how to get amethyst to go that. There's no setting for that.
Press and hold the zap button.

Copy the key from Minibits, tap the clipboard in the Amethyst dialog. Done.

Also, double tapping the zap button lets you quickly send a chosen zap amount.
 It seems frozen.
I got it. Give it a sec.
 Ah!

Ok. That's fairly useful.
I feel like we've made a lot of progress here. 😂
It's another way to zap for me. That's honestly about it.

I still don't get what the big deal is.
It's not a big deal. Like I said, just another tool in the box. Might even sit there gathering dust forever. Some people are deeply involved, so there's a lot of excitement from them.

But now you know how it works at least. Everybody will put it to use as needed for their application.
 No.

I know how to use it.

I barely know how it works.

Distinctly different.
😂 Okay, but that's good enough for the moment. Hey, if nothing else we made a banger of a basic ecash tutorial.
 True. 😁
I also DMed you 500 worth of a bunch of 3s, 40s, 5s, etc. Some of those individual bills I found on the ground, some were from selling my body, some were for mowing grass...but nobody really knows who they belonged to. Only that they were minted at the Minibits mint (bank).
It's free banking on bitcoin with legacy by default. Even if you add accounts.
You gave in way too quick, you gotta make him work for it 😂.
 Meh.

I don't have time for that.
No idea. Just heard from a friend. Now I'm.not interested
There very well could be a non monero fork,
It's just the only fork Ive heard in regards to amethyst
Tgere are 2 amethyst forks one is for monero called garnet and the other one is called onyx and it has no security filters or terms of conditions box but onyx isnt being maintained
Do you have a link for onyx?
It's called Garnet. Supports both Monero and Lightning, but if you prefer Amethyst or another client just put a Monero address somewhere in your profile and any Garnet user can one-click tip any of your notes

There are a few users, but still some work that needs to be done and it's lagging behind a bit on updates
