So, the example they give, of someone wanting to kill you... and he (Hitler) was the leader of a *government*. Before that, they mention banding together with friends with guns to fight off attackers with guns. That doesn't seem too different than nations at war. Obviously, the author was publicly educated.

Great question. People naturally form bonds in order to dissuade “strong men,” and other forms of collective evil. That’s what I mean by limited government. Very very very limited.

Only problem with this is that it always grows over time. Any single gov in existence always tend to socialism until full destruction. And full destruction can take 10 years or 300 hundred years like the Roman Empire took, but ultimately will happen. It's better for us to understand that gov should die completely. "Limited" gov is an impossible paradox.
Doesn’t have to. We allowed it to grow. It is less impossible than no gov. This statement is as immovable as gravity. The darkness in humanity always seeks to dominate. For some reason this made me think back to critical thinking lessons I had in elementary school. Instead of being taught to simply recite the words we were asked to think and prove an understanding of what we had read. And contrary viewpoints were encouraged by my teacher if you could defend and articulate it. Teach kids to think again
Hitler WAS government. Government kills more people than anything else. 100+ million in the last century from just two regimes. Lenin and Mao. Not to mention all the other governments that resulted in million of deaths.
Wow, I don't recall reading such levels of bullshit from my school textbooks. I mean, I'm sure it was there, but not in such a blatant way. It's kind of how when a [pick your sport] team is beating the hell out of their opponent, and then becomes over-confident in their abiltity to win the game. Reality can be a cruel, humbling, bitch to people who do that. :)
