#asknostr best Google Maps replacements?
There is none. Anyone who says anything different is just not going to admit that Google does maps better than any other entity on the planet. OSM is a terrible third place. (behind probably Apple) Address lookup is terrible. It is perpetually out of date. Editing the map is stupid and/or requires other apps to make it not the worst thing ever. It still sucks. Google earth is one of the best things to ever happen to humanity even if it gets used for dumb stuff, too. I deal with using waze, magic earth, OSM, and organic maps.
I tolerate MapQuest's app. For navigating, it's almost as good.
damn i haven't used mapquest since i was a child. it is good? :D
It's functional. The navigation seems slightly latent. It shows you passing a street, when you're approaching it. Aside from that, it gives me all the normal directions, can do multiple way points, has predictive address entry, "satellite view", and some other bells and whistles. I think there's plenty of room to modernize the app, but it works.
I'll probably use it thank you! organic maps is great when you don't have internet but a bit old school
https://organicmaps.app/
hey, why is organic Maps better than osm? just wondering, appreciate the response
I'm not familiar with OSM, but Organic Maps has a mobile app that works really well
Don't listen to The_Beave :p OSM and its various clients aren't as good as Google Maps, but they work solidly once you learn to work with them not against them :D When doing an address search, first drag and center the map somewhere vaguely near where you think your address is. OSM is running the search on your hardware not Google's so it can use all the help it can get. And leave out punctuation, for some reason its better without it... "You were here 29 days ago!" said Google Maps to Low Information Voter. Disabled the creepy thing then and there...
1. Use "GMaps WV" to look up address 2. Share the location to "OsmAnd" or MagicEarth or OrganicMaps. OsmAnd has more features, such as tile overlays. 3. You can overlay Google real time traffic tiles in OsmAnd for traffic conditions. This way you can navigate as good as using the GMaps app without being tracked and data mined.
The honest truth for most people?: Apple Maps. Yes, it’s Apple, but it’s generally thought to be less intrusive than Google maps. If you want to avoid Apple but still want a mostly usable experience: Magic Earth Bonus tip: both Google and Apple Maps allow you to download an offline map. This retains most functionality of the respective apps, but doesn’t constantly phone home with your location data to Google and Apple servers.
