The Texas GOP has rejected the petition to have Texas Republicans vote on ‘Texit’ in March - the movement for Texas to secede from the United States and reassert itself as an independent nation.
With so much hash power located in that one state with its unique self-contained grid, Texit is probably THE most important political movement in Bitcoin circles.
Afterall, they would not want to carry the US debt burden and whilst they could remain dollarised, true independence only comes when you’re out from under the thumb of the USD cabal.
If El Salvador’s adoption was important for Bitcoin, imagine what the Nation of Texas with 25% of hash power could do for it and conversely, what Bitcoin could do for them.. https://i.nostr.build/gV7B.jpg
It wasn't up to them, the nationalists have the signatures to force it on the ballot - I believe there are already lawsuits filed
You might be closer to this than me but far as I know the Texas GOP Chair declined the petition saying majority of signatures were invalid, and Texas Supreme Court denied the petition altogether.
It’s a movement that will persist regardless of what happens right now, far too much popular support and too much fuckery from the Feds for it to quietly go away
Secession attempts will happen when people start to demand cheaper security. The trick is in finding a good reason for people to want cheaper security and educating them.
How about the Feds trying to keep Texas’ border open so migrants can continue flooding in? Seems like a good reason.
Turns out the state politicians like the money printer privileges too.
It will probably have to happen in a way that is independent from the courts and formal declarations. Once there is enough popular support in Texas it’s possible that non-compliance with Federal laws and demands can happen at a large enough scale that it might as well be secession. Feds will respond with troop deployments, sanctions and aid cut-offs, but as long as Texans remain peaceful (at least at first), it can be made to look like a really bad (for the feds) political knee-jerk that snowballs independence movements nation-wide.
The US’ best hope is that a blue state goes first, ideally California as a response to a Trump re-election, albeit I can’t see them doing so.
Because whoever goes first is going to cop the worst of the Federal Government but once one goes, there will be a flurry of secessions in short order capitalising on that sentiment and the Feds won’t be able to contain them all; it’s amazing how quick people can realise the Emperor has no clothes.
I can’t see the US sticking together in this form beyond 10 years.
