In any case, for the majority of the world, network access is a problem, it's getting better but other looming issues are likely to play a role. Like what happens after we deploy wireless to the boonies and then the sun blurts and all that gear is bricked? The benefit of the cash is clear. The technological barrier is huge if you can't maintain connectivity. This is going to escalate over coming decades but at the same time, it's not just deploying tech but spreading knowledge and building resilient networks that can't be easily shut down by strong bursts of radiation.
