I agree with your point, but there also definitely needs to be some push back against places like Wave Lake. I don't really pay attention to them, so I don't really know what their advertising model is, but if they are claiming to actually be decentralized value for value music while being a centralized platform that only has nostr logins for instance, then yeah, they need to be given a lot of shit for false advertising.
Peertube is self hosting and have V4V built in… had only considered it for streaming shows not songs but actually that makes a tonne of sense.
Yeah, I don't host stuff with them so idk. I'm pretty sure they make it clear that they take 10%. I can also understand why the v4v people are pissed.

Like these guys are out here self hosting the shit out of everything and they hear other people talking wavlake being decentralized and feeling burned.

So I get it.

I'm just trying to help move the needle by sharing my experience as someone trying to do this for the first time.

TBH, just for providing a nice user/artist, experience they could take 99% if they wanted to. IDGAF about that.

But then they get all nice and friendly about how they're working SO hard to innovate with "new" functionality that has been around for years (in the most cucked way possible), just to perpetuate the illusion that there is no Podcast Index, there is no decentralized music, Steven Bell does not exist...

Only #wavlake exists, we're the only guys in town who get it! Join us on the freedom gravy-train express! 🚂 🥳 🔥

...i start to feel sorry for all the awesome musicians who have blindly given them control...
💯 agree with HeyCitizen. We’ve been carrying them this whole time. They do things their way which is usually a half-assed version of what PC 2.0 is doing. Hell we had a guy manually adding their feeds to the podcastindex so they would show up in apps and be playable on V4V music shows.

All the other hosting platforms are following the specs without issue but this one always gets a pass when it comes to criticism.

I'm coming at it new so I can't comment on the history.

I can tell there are strong feelings, I hear y'all. But yeah, idk, I just feel sad.

To an outside this seems like a Hartfield and Mccoy thing and yeah. 😪
Well, if you need any help with anything, the decentralized community is very real and very supportive.

Over the years we've grown to be more vocal because in our tolerance and generosity for giving benefit-of-the-doubt, some bad actors (#wavlake) chose to take advantage. In return, I've taken it upon myself to call them out as a centralized, closed platform. At least for now, they will continue to ignore me and let me talk shit about them all I want, because addressing me or any other decentralized musician would draw too much attention to our existence. And the last thing they want is for their loyal customers to start to notice the truth...

Thank you for understanding and forgiving my walls of text; I'm just so excited that musicians can finally see the beauty of decentralized citizens joining forces in order to create value for all parties involved... There's no way I could ever keep that inside! ❤
