I just can't see it. I will suspend my disbelief to extend measures. I love scifi and fantasy and all sorts. But I can't see a guy who doesn't communicate getting anywhere in life realistically with the amount that he was in that film. He's very awkward when he interacts with other characters. At least, when it comes to emotional situations. But when it comes to practical matters, like that scene when he kills those two hitmen in the motel, he's very focused and doesn't seem to be bothered, at all.

Paul Chain’s ‘Fast One’ (the novel that solidified the hardboiled genre) Is extremely terse. Also I view this flick in the pulp/comic book realm of reality which makes it more reasonable.
