I’m having trouble reconciling the notion that @jack Dorsey, cofounder and former CEO of Twitter - an extremely censored platform, hangs out and supports nostr. The philosophical cornerstones of the two platforms are polar opposites. What am I missing? #grownostr
People learn from their mistakes... I think he wanted a free speech platform with Twitter. The censorship came from accepting money from various sources which then threatened to cut off the money, also regulatory pressure and internal bureaucracy
Being public and having an advertising model will not allow for a truly free service. No way around it. Nor should one person be in charge of all content decisions.
Elon made a show of saying if Twitter fails because marketers pull out then it will be their fault. But wouldn't it really be his fault for relying on them to start with? Obviously he's not going to let it fail without a fight, hence the premium subscription model, but is he going at it the wrong way?
Twitter had a board of directors, Nostr does not
More importantly, it had shareholders and advertisers.
Leaders lead. Leaders don't cave to shareholders and advertisers; they persuade those parties to get on-board with the larger vision/mission, and they hold fast to first principles when things get dicey. Maybe Jack is a good person, but he's no leader. Maybe Elon is a douche-canoe, but he knows what leadership is and how it manifests.
Helping to correct what I was a part of and learned. It’s not about Twitter. It’s about the corporate incentives. A company can’t own the protocol, platform, and interface all in one. The protocol layer must be free.
You had to ride the tiger and rode it well..👏👍😊
💯🎯
It seems like your biggest advertisers were the FBI and The Biden Crime Syndicate.

Respect.
lots of people so easily & so often oversimplify things and make judgments about things as if they’re considering an accurate or a big enough picture. my take…a story i believe about twitter is that for a long time, it was very simple with (mostly) just character-limited text, which made it so super cool and more pure & required more creativity & wit. twitter started as a great & awesome idea imho…extremely low “bandwidth” for instantaneous global communication, useable with the simplest of phones & bare minimum connectivity. (nice in a way to remember the olden days of yore, lol 🥲) …🌀… but over many years, lots of different powers & forces came through morphing twitter into a BEAST of its own. now, though, twitter is no longer in existence. it met its end. …& here we are trying to goodly give life to nostr :) indeed, a super fun/interesting endeavor/experiment/project…for us all to take part in…thanks to many devs and funders of devs ✨
but if anyone out there ~knows~ of juicy illuminati theories we should consider, would love to hear about them, plz. maybe the twitter mafia is evil 😈 ?! maybe they’re angels 😇?! i dunno 🤷🏻♀️ one. just. can. N O T . K N O W❕😵💫 maybe they’re robots 🤖 ⁉️‼️❓
Yes! that's why we Nostr You're doing the right thing for humanity Jack. I was watching WW2 documentaries and was mesmerized on how quickly people caught up in the war zones lost everything. They couldn't escape with their wealth. With Nostr and Bitcoin we have hope to move to where ever the hell we want. Good Night! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Open source doss tend to make everything better. Closed source is alright until it starts to use government power to keep itself closed. But open source helps literally everyone. As usual, IP laws make everything worse.
Maybe publicly invite Alex Jones to #nostr , this would show your willingness to evolve from censorer to free speech advocate. This would generate a headline and grow the reach of #nostr
🙏🙏🙏
Thinking nor time are protocols. 🎚️
I think a #mainvolume issued license is required to think. I think I am European, Swedish in fact. I think I am created by Sina for #mainvolume https://apps.apple.com/de/app/sys/id1439243037?l=en-GB 🤷🏻♂️
100% agree 👍
what about AT protocol? Amy thoughts?
Does bluesky control the protocol?
Right now yes, but they say with the federation, protocol will be open to masses. https://atproto.com/guides/overview
He is beginning to believe...
Well nostr:npub1lx4w65n6uu3nkxlq37wmuvr4v44s8r0ys222xw5tjdjc56qyhwzszmd53yi def suggest to look into nostr a bit more. Jack could have sat back and got fat from twitter or the other businesses he has but insteadnhe is trying to fox mistakes. When you understand nostr and bitcoin you see it's not about any individual. Its about broader society and how bitcoin and nostr can change our lives fundamentally, all for the better of humanity. That's the real mission. Reach out if you have any questions
But a person can always speak the truth.......
Obvious
This is what life is about, learning and maturing along the way. Victor Frankl said something like: life asks you questions, it's your task to live the answer
Do see a world with multiple protocols? Or is Nostr the one?
Your concerns are valid. Money talks, and some people have lots to talk with. Regardless of being developed on an open protocol, Angel investors pose the same threat to nostr as any other open source project: Monopoly of development resources. The difference with Nostr is really a subtle one. Because nostr is anchored in bitcoin and freedom tech, it’s respect for individual sovereignty has been front and center for all to see and hold high from the very beginning. Any altercation to this (eg: how user data is handled in the protocol) will simply not be tolerated by so many orange pilled. The fact that developers, designers, advocates, and users alike are all invested in this freedom ethos, from day one and still today, is exactly what makes nostr different. Worthy of respect IMHO.
@jack's reply to this note has 55 reposts and this note only has one so I am reposting this note. nostr:note1lqeezx98w6hpuhm5yeykku4mjd0ssghupsh986f3r9p2h9j3dcws0cg74v
Redemption. Give the guy a break.
I would say you're witnessing the change of a person who's come a long way. Back in the older twitter days I didn't like Jack much (sorry Jack) but in my personal opinion Jack has reached a new episode in his life and I'd even say that he has learned from his mistakes. I like the new Jack. Plus, I like his dress code. But that's just me.
Nostr is being designed in a way to exhaust developers who try to release society from evil government. Nostr is designed to be easily censored and targeted by any gov agencies as soon as anyone here speak something meaningful.
what would be a better way ?
It should be designed as: 1- the servers should inter-communicate using a p2p protocol 2- we should query a server using many available protocols (including current websocket, but also webrtc and UDP) offering to them a utxo so they can charge us for their “query mesh service”. 3- complex query language só the server can be able to query against their entire database and measure the amount of data he can “sell” 4- if the server hasn’t enough data as requested (xxxKb) they should automatically request his other server peers for more information to buy, excluding the information he already has. 5- as at each request we are exchanging UTXO we can include blockchain info as (blocks, transactions) inside nostr protocol so we don’t need to rely on #lightning and can replace it completely by a buildin tech. That’s the design I’ve thinking about. Something about mixing nostr and lightning into something I like to call reNostr p2p server. #bitcoin #nostr #lightning #kademlia #reNostr
how about dedicated relays that only store links to notes / relationships between notes ( which one is a reply to which ) while all the actual data ( text, images, video ) is stored by users similar to how bit-torrent works. this takes the load off relays making the system faster and more financially viable while the users shoulder the cost of hosting large files. ultimately the users have to pay for the service one way or the other - let them pay with their storage and bandwidth. depending on how much storage and bandwidth you make available to the system will also determine what kind of storage and bandwidth the system will make available to you. so some users will be able to watch 8K video and others will only be able to read plain text. ultimate fairness. @fiatjaf
Paul-turn
I would say it was an extremely censored platform that was controlled by the communists in power who had their little blue sheep minions as monitors of the platform who were triggered by anything anti-woke. This is no longer the case, most of the commies and the little blue sheep have been booted. While it is still censored somewhat the big blue cloud is now gone.
