I think either is better than the standard router software.

I've only run pfSense but OPNSense looks like a simpler interface.
After spending the last couple of weeks at work testing various standard residential grade routers and troubleshooting weird issues with them I would definitely agree that anything is better.. I haven’t tried OPNSense myself either but I’ve seen it recommended over pfSense recently. General functionality is probably pretty similar with both.
I was I interested to look a bit more at how they do compare so I ran up an instance of each in a VM. The installation process is pretty similar for both of them. These screenshots should give an idea of the difference in the interface. OPNsense looks a bit nicer. https://i.nostr.build/fBaaBNWZqAZNR1FP.jpg https://i.nostr.build/soNF8FvYDQLhfLNM.jpg https://i.nostr.build/4WH8SmPPycPnuHxs.jpg https://i.nostr.build/6S6zVoZAqVXV1hpo.jpg
Thanks a lot, I’m trying to upgrade the home network. I really appreciate it.
I’m waiting for the hardware now
