Yeah, they recommend that so your engine can get filled with sludge and then you have to take it in for maintenance.
It's the ethanol that comes in all fuels that does that. That additive got approved to be added into all fuels sometime in the early 2000's. You can find gas dealers that sell ethanol free fuel. Its more expensive but less expensive then the maintenance you are talking about. I use ethanol free fuel for all my tools like my chainsaw, generators, weed whipper, leaf blower ect...
