Are they overly useful most of the time? No. But situations could happen making them vital for communication.

 Definitely. It's not an expensive hobby. Well, until you buy dozens of them and build out a large deployment 👀 
 Want!!! Once I’m back home I gotta figure out how to start connecting with other “nodes” out there. But the new toy turns on, has been flashed with current firmware, and successfully connected to my phone/laptop, all without needing to know a single line of code/CLI 😉 
 Thanks to you both. I'll add to my to do list. Any recommended devices/where to buy? 
 Here’s where I got mine — just make sure to choose the right frequency (915 mhz for USA, if I recall)
