Oddbean new post about login | logout @bb644797 Netflix knocked it out of the park. I'm an anime dork but never got into the One Piece anime. Checked out the live action and loved it. My gf even liked it.
@c9c96c91 It got me to go check out the original anime and I'm plowing through it but the live action show makes it look awful. This is vastly improved over the original product. I'm VERY satisfied and I hope they do more like this with this kind of direction. It's absolutely un-woke, very heartfelt but still silly and the very few changes they made from the anime were absolutely better (something you can rarely say about changes from source materials). I'm kinda floored!
@bb644797 My only grievance is young Luffy. He was annoying.
@c9c96c91 I think that's intentional, though. He was supposed to be portrayed as a little punk even in the original anime. It's supposed to explain why he was stupid enough to just eat that devil fruit out of spite. He's a character that makes a lot of stupid mistakes because of his persistence but starts to learn to be more empathetic over time and less of a punk.. still an irresponsible punk but less so over time. I get it, I think.
