 Looking at my female dominated grad cohort 20yrs ago, I expected we were going to be part of a shift to include more women in science as our careers advanced.

But retention percentages for women from student to full professor are the same now as they were when I started writing about it in the 2000s.

Academia doesn’t support #women in #science.
 @b5cdaf1a But, I think now the women contribution is greater than in 2000.
 @b5cdaf1a very sad
 @b5cdaf1a what does the conclusion mean more precisely? does academia not financially support women studying as much as men?
 @b5cdaf1a Or it's Women getting into academia and finding they enjoyed being a student more than a researcher. Happens to Men too.
 @b5cdaf1a there are no women faculty in my physics department. And they want to keep it that way. It’s not possible to advance, so women leave. We have to mandate that leadership roles be 50/50 female/male
 @b5cdaf1a You could have ended that sentence at "women."
 "Academia doesn’t support #women

fixed that for you @b5cdaf1a
 @b5cdaf1a Thanks for the question, I was able to block a whole bunch of misogynists
 @b5cdaf1a XL F
 my fav prof must have been a shiny; one of the relative few phds in software
 Women don't support each other in the workplace or another woman being a go getter. They tear eachother down, bully, harass and actively try to get other women fired.
 It always surprised me how vicious women can be towards each other.
 @b5cdaf1a I have seen something quite similar. Of the 35% of women who graduated with me, only few still are in a "properly" technical role. Many have moved to quality, project management, training, etc. All roles who require some technical expertise but are more women-coded (caring, teaching, organising).
I don't have a solution for it, but it is clearly a societal issue that everyone should be thinking about
 @b5cdaf1a
The question is: Is it Academia or is it the women?
 @b5cdaf1a my experience in scientific research labs was that it was the most sexist and racist business environment I've ever worked at by a huge margin
 @b5cdaf1a yes, beautiful. Make us proud. We got the fort here, imma HEO, mining and construction, heavy hauler trucking, AZ license and I sew regalia's. We need you there. #women #womenunited
