We don’t have that collective consciousness any more.
The 90s were dominated by central programming - movies from Hollywood to your video store, music from labels to your record store, magazines from the publishing houses to your news stands, newspapers/radio/TV from trusted state-approved sources ignoring the stories they didn’t want you to hear and amplifying messages they did.
It’s very easy to have ‘harmony’ when everyone is drinking the same koolaid.
We’re fragmented now and it’s never going to be put back together no matter how much the parasites demand control over online social spaces.
New leadership will be needed to find common threads amongst people in the fragmented online world.
