Oh. I thought cake wallet used thorchain for xmr exchange. Must be their own thing then. Do you know what they use?
There's also Bisq with decent liquidity.
I don’t know what they currently use but I know they have plan to use #SeraiDEX (not launched yet) which is similar to #ThorChain with the support of #Monero.
Thanks. That's great to know. It looks like Cake will be the biggest Monero wallet and exchange. Remember this to make fun of me in the future 😀
Ultimately whoever gets liquidity and network effect first wins.
I haven't tried Cake's giftcard exchange. Have you?

No I have not but it seems to be working well from what I’ve heard.
That's almost as good as cash. The best implementation of branching out of the black market. Governments won't let it get big. Shutdown within a few years.
I've tried Cakes giftcards and virtual debits several times. They work fine everywhere I've used them 👌

coincards.com is another good option
A good way to spend your Monero but I’m afraid those aren’t going to be around forever. Cards providers have to comply with AML/KYC regulations and touching any crypto services is a risk.
100% agree that is why I don't depend on them. I usually spend my Monero directly.
 Cash via mail?
No great ways to do that with Monero directly that I know of since LocalMonero shutdown. Hoping Haveno will become the new place to do that when it drops and it should be much harder to stop just like Bisq.

Realistically right now you can do cash via mail for BTC/LTC with HodlHodl or LocalCoinSwap I think. Then you can swap it for Monero.

You can also try Bisq and Robosats maybe, but they usually have very little to no cash-by-mail offers last time I checked.
A few do that on the dark markets, and moneromarket.io

There's maybe one food truck that accepts monero. Not really viable for immediate needs.
Agree, you're right, I spend Monero directly where I can for what I can that's what I meant. But everyday expenses are trickier. That's why I like cash, proxy purchases (like Monezon & Anonshop), virtual debits, and gift cards to fill the gaps. But it is not ideal for sure.

Scroll to [⭐"WHERE CAN I SPEND MONERO?"] section for some ideas. Let me know if there are others I am missing.

That was no criticism. I was just wondering if the situation is different where you are. We both accept that there will be hurdles like that because governments don't give up without a fight, and they can fight really well. It is annoying but a small price to pay. I'm fairly happy that cash and prepaid cards are possible. If taxes go up, we may see more food vendors accepting crypto, but it's years away. For now there's only overpriced honey from a random guy in Portugal.

The collapse crowd talks about gold all the time, but Lebanon and Argentina show that drugs and ammo are a lot more viable in a dire scenario. Collapse will likely be slow, so best to bet on a currency you can swap for a brick and be the king in your village 😁
think i might check out #thorchain before #seraidex launches but not really sure where to start. never touched this #defi stuff. looks like its just a bunch of clearnet apes thinking its the stock market.
#Thorswap js a popular front end for #Thorchain. It’s pretty straightforward to use: https://app.thorswap.finance/swap
But yes, it’s all on the clearnet afaik which probably #serai will be as well.
