 Enchantments Backpacking: Day 2

I’ve decided I’m not afraid of heights, just exposure to falling. A couple times I was terrified traversing rocky ledges. So much easier in the dark. That said, I really enjoyed the Enchantments. Unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Autumn has definitely arrived. It snowed on the peaks Saturday evening. Want to go back in warmer weather.

 @c531994e beautiful!!! Nice shot! Yeah I’d want to go back too! I’ve never been afraid of heights, just falling lol
 @675b7c7b Thanks! It took me a while to figure out what I was actually scared of.
 @c531994e the larches are about two weeks from peak color, they're starting here though. Glad you got up there. Now do the other side, camp at Colchuck and day hike up Aasgard Pass to the upper basin. Then you'll have the full Enchantments experience. Or do the day-hike through, in at the Stuart/Colchuck trailhead, out the Snow Lake trailhead. 🙂
 @c02fb0a2 I would like to do the other side. Aasgard Pass looked like it would be tricky to go down but good experience. I’ve been watching some videos of other Alpine Lakes areas and bought the NatGeo map in the Avenza app. Would love to do more around Snoqualmie.
 @c531994e Not that bad, I found it easier to go down than up, which is a serious leg-burning grunt. You want good weather though either way.
 @c02fb0a2 For sure. I was worried about rain and dealing with the granite. I started jogging back through the Core when I got a weather alert near Aasgard saying rain was on the way and suddenly Dragontail Peak was in a dark cloud.
 @c531994e Yes, same for me. I love being up high, but exposure can really tighten me up. It helps to do it a lot, exposure therapy in its original form ;)
 @2346c553 Definitely, i’m still doing it. Helped that I needed to get back to camp and don’t think I had many options. One area I started to shake a bit but persevered. Could just be me. There were plenty of day hikers doing it, but then again, they didn’t have 25 to 30 pounds of weight.
 @c531994e that’s a good framing. I would also be afraid of exposure to falling but not heights. Flying in a plane doesn’t scare me. Obviously you could crash, but statistically, it is a very low risk. Me walking/climbing on edge of a cliff, falling is not such a low risk.
 @3e17b1c0 That’s a good point. I’m also not scared to fly, at least not because of heights.
 @c531994e fantastic pics
 @70d35ebe Thank you so much! ☺️
 @c531994e
Wow!🙌🙏 More gorgeous pics! Glad you got to see it, be safe! I'm terrified of heights, myself. 🫂🫂🫂
 @ab401dc6 Thank you! I’m trying to be safe for sure.
 @c531994e Beautiful images 😊 Have a wonderful time and stay safe ☀️
 Enchantments Backpacking: Wrap

Some final photos of my trip. The Enchantments are truly a great experience. Huge granite mountains in the middle of the Cascades. Rugged hiking with route finding. Good campsites. Many toilets, if you’re into that kind of camping. Water galore. The hiking was tougher than climbing to 8,300 feet on Mount Jefferson, but well worth it.

 @c531994e Amazing! Thank you for all the pictures. I'd love to make it to the Enchantments myself someday - sounds like quite an adventure.
 @3b216a92 My pleasure! I want to go back next year when the weather is nicer.
 @c531994e Just gorgeous photos!! Wow.
 @e24efd8d Thanks Heidi!
 @c531994e truly wild and enchanting great photos
 @fed144e4 It’s like being on another planet. Thanks!
 @c531994e good for the brain to get out there
 @fed144e4 Absolutely!
 @c531994e It’s such a beautiful place. The landscape loos a lot like the Sierra. Thanks for sharing and the hard work! ^^
 @3b73b038 I’m just learning about this but there is a controversial theory in the geology world that the granite shifted from Baja California some 50 million years ago or something like that when the west coast was underwater.
 @c531994e Great shots Andrew, looks like a really cool place to be
 @b7396b65 Thank you! It was pretty fun.
 @c531994e @50698f08 some years ago we got a permit for upper snow lake and then dayhiked into the Enchantments. From the topos we thought that would be pretty easy.

Narrator: it was not easy.

However, it was astonishingly beautiful. A really special place.
 @fb9ad56b @50698f08 That’s exactly what I did. I was surprised how the trail changed after snow lakes.
 @c531994e Beautiful images 😊 Have a wonderful time ☀️
