I have a script that can set up another instance on Debian in around 10 minutes. I can set up another region or another provider or even at home should I need very quickly.

I do this for a couple reasons but the ability to move jurisdictions quickly is prime.

 I have no clearnet exposure for my node, all solutions I have explored so far are custodial bottlenecks. Why are you gping through a vps instead of tailscale & cloudflare tunnel the connection? Custodial potatoe, potato 

 I don’t trust Cloudflare generally so I don’t allow them in my network. I don’t worry about censorship because I have a workaround if my provider does that. I am worried about having funds rugged. So my “custodial” risk as you call it, I feel anyway, is pretty mitigated. 

 Fair enough. How would that rugging scenario play out? How would a fully vps hosted node expose you to rug risks? 

 I do the same (and I suspect a good number do as well). The VPS simply acts as a reverse proxy.

What happens when it's down? Well.. nothing really. My node (like most nodes) also advertises an onion address. When I have the time, I'll simply switch the clearnet address.
