The amount of backend stuff for various systems that Nostr can improve is immense.

Decentralized social media is a big deal, but that use case goes up against very large existing network effects. If you judge Nostr’s success based on not gaining traction on that front quickly enough, you’ll likely be disappointed. That’s why a lot of people come to Nostr, post a bit, and then leave for a while, and then come back when there’s some sort of catalyst, post a bit, and then leave again. That’s fine. It’ll take time. It’s a slow burn.

But in the meantime, the amount of development going on under the hood for all sorts of things is huge. In particular, I think the open-source social graph aspect is under-appreciated for how important it can be beyond just socials. Payments being the next obvious one, and probably bigger than people think. And many other things.

 🎯🙌
have you checked out https://hivetalk.org yet ? it’s only been like 3 weeks of development by @BITKARROT , still in alpha.

But it’s like a zoom/jitsi/discord alternative! with nostr log-in and zaps ⚡️
I keep shitposting, even without traction...

How do you think Nostr can improve payments? Are you thinking along the lines of NWC and adding a ID/messaging layer to Lightning payments?
Basically, I don’t see why I would use any new wallet that doesn’t have a social graph of some sort attached to it. Nostr happens to be a great open source social graph.

If I can’t look up people from within the wallet and pay them, then that adds friction. Payments and social inherently work well together, even if I was not interested in actively posting on social media per se.
I hope to see Nostr integrated into gaming soon. I dont know exactly what that look like but players can actually own their game accounts and transact p2p.
I think nostr would work great for chess-by-mail type games, as well as for server browsers/matchmaking.
The social graph is a really cool element but I think you’ll enjoy this talk from a recent Nostrasia if you haven’t already - seems like it will also enable crazy use cases impossible on fiat rails!

I’m here for Nostr and DVMs beating all other decentralized AI approaches!
I think about cybersecurity model changes re: Instead of multifactor, and identity access, passwords and user names, we spawn ln wallet addresses and whitelist and exchange sats. Access requires 1 sat, then it is sent back when session ends.
 How about some of this?

Hey. Looking for some follows so I am not out hear speaking into the void. AMA
 Yes!
Any time a client (like a web browser) makes a request to a server (like twitter or iCloud) to return some content, feed, or app data over HTTP, we can now ask ourselves: "could this benefit from replacing the "server" with a "decentralized & configurable relay pool"?

It's not just socials that nostr can disrupt; plenty of M2M cases are up for grabs too 😎

should have bots here that post the following to a npub...
- bitcoin data (obs)
- weather data
the npub should scrape the world wide webs daily for this data
 slow and steady 🐢
I sense a strong synergy between bitcoin and nostr for the 2028 halving / bull run.
Can’t wait till googletube is replaced by the genuine article built on nostr. Are there any nostrtubes out there yet?
BIS & IMF wrote Bitcoin off early on as it didn't get enough traction in the early years. They did their analysis and simply didn't recognise the threat.

Then Facebook published the Diem white paper. As Facebook with 2bn users represented a legitimate threat to their long established network, the central banks + governments panic and killed it instantly.

Bitcoin continued to grow in the mean time and now it's too decentralised and secure to shut down. It will continue to grow and gradually overcome the network effects of the old system.

Bitcoin, I believed was elegantly designed by Satoshi to distribute the coins early, yet grow slowly, as he may have suspected the hubris of the old gaurd would lead them to underestimate its potential.

Whilst Nostr is not Bitcoin, there are some lessons to be learned from Bitcoins story. New technologies take time, some make it, some don't. Just because a new tech hasn't achieved overnight success, doesn't mean it or the ideas it fostered are going to fail.

 Nostr protocol enables power users.
Absolutely. The potential for Nostr is wild!!
backend is mandatory to reliable tech and to build trust, and if i were in charge i’d probably want to make sure the promise i make to my community, is actually backed with tangible tech, but to get people to use a product, you need good ux. relays, nodes, private keys, NIP-05, RNURLs i think i just squinted. as a user i want to log in and enjoy, not go through docs to get started. once we have good ux, we’ll get people coming, history seems to rule in our favor. i totally fall into the “post a bit and then leave” category for ux reasons, i want to grow here much more than i want to grow any insta or tiktok, but shit is HARD to grasp!
yes, network effect will become increasingly important in that time.
