The smell of gyms is what really turns me off about them. Does a 200 bucks a month gym smell any better? Probably not?
at this rate, wouldn't it be cheaper to make a home gym?
That's where I'm at. More like my brother's home gym. I don't have room in mine.
curious now how much a basic kit would cost, to get the most fundamental exercises done
Proper (or adjustable) dumbells, a bar, and a bench really hit the majority IMO. You just learn to use gravity to your advantage. It's not AS good but to get started man, you can get so far. I think I'm finally at the point I'd like some equipment to target some places, but I needed to come a long way first. And it's mostly because I'm at higher weights than I feel comfortable doing with a shoddy setup. If you buy new (Core Home Fitness) everything is "okay" quality imo, for the nicer stuff, you're looking at like $500 shipped if you don't get a deal on brand new stuff. Although if you go adjustable dumbells, you're a male with a target weight over 180lbs lean, you need more than 50lbs on a dumbell. So you can get them now, and pick up some 60lb+ single dumbells later, but find a kit that has at least 80lbs. I doubled my lifting weight in about 3.5 months with daily workouts in nearly every muscle group.
It would, plus I could guarantee it would be far better maintained too
absolutely so 🤗 though i have to admit, i'm not fully aware of the exact prices of gym equipment but the time, money and nerves spent on commute and so forth... though it is a nice excuse to get out of the house
I would imagine initially you’re looking at easily a thousand but granted it depends on what you’re looking at, but it would pay for itself and be cheaper than paying a gym membership in the long term
It's also a convenience thing, if you just keep scraping FB Marketplace (or have a friend do it for you :) you can find some deals, just need a little elbow grease and some bleach to clean stuff up. Or I've found some decent deals on new stuff just by watching some good reviews on YT (that aren't sponsored) and keep your eyes on deals. I've seen $400 benches go for like half price shipped. Gyms regularly auction off equipment, and local gyms fail all the time, and liquidate their stuff, often pretty new. That's more difficult to come by for me, but I've seen it happen a few times a year.
Started collecting Craigslist equipment in my teens, really paid off now. Only thing I'm missing is a squat/lift rack. Maybe a leg press would be nice :/
