 Family fitness and everyday stength 
 A cable machine is a good balance. Will give you lots of options without the concern for younger exercisers to drop weights on their feet. depending in size,multistation setup might be great. I'd also get one with a dip bar and pull up bar - mandatory, so you don't need to add other equipment 

You might spend more in one machine, but it'll go further. Just my opinion. Either way, enjoy time with the family!
