You can ban a platform, but you can’t ban a protocol.
 🎯
 Firewalls exist.
Who has the greatest firewall in the world?

China.

China tried to ban Bitcoin.

People still mine and use Bitcoin in China.

China tried to ban Nostr.

People still use Nostr in China.
China didn't block port 8333 and 9375 though, right? Them banning it was a worthless government ban. A technical ban would have been much different.
And banning Nostr would be much, much harder because a firewall would have to block port 443 and at that point, they're blocking the world wide web.
Only if its a stupid firewall.

If you have your own root certificate (and China does), you can MiTM every port 443 request and perform DPI on it.

I've installed my own root cert into my computer and used Squid in Peek 'n' Splice mode to do it.

China doesn't bother doing this to all cross border traffic, because they don't care enough to commit the resources.

I'm guessing a Western country will be the first, and it won't be the USA. More likely mine (Australia), or UK/FR/DE/IT.
 Yes.

Open protocols are like water.

Be water, Derek 💜
 Hello from China!
Decentralised initiatives don't put enough stock into hardware. We need a good decentralized ISP.

Helium isn't it. Meshtastic is promising for chats, but not full browsing.

This is the final key in the puzzle.
 Absolutely. Meshtastic is interesting.
Andy Kirby is an absolute genius.
And you can't own a decentralized protocol
 Thank goodness for that
 Especially not a divine one
