 I just feel like the days of people spending 20 or 30 years at one company are long gone. Most people I know, but this is by no means all, max out at about the 5 or 6 year mark.
 @2a70c54d we all know we're one financial crisis, merger, or CEO whim away from the chopping block, in general
 @2a70c54d

most of the time, i go to a company with some project/objective in mind. seems most take 2-3 years to achieve. the only places i've stayed longer, i've had multiple different roles & projects and most of those also fit into the 2-3 year time frame per role/project.
 @2a70c54d Exactly. During a job interview a few years ago, I was asked where I saw myself in 10 years.

I was honest in my reply, suggesting that this was an unrealistic question these days, as it would unlikely be with them.. and especially at my age.

Essentially, if you can get the contributions of someone with my skills and experience for even a few years, you should take it and consider yourself fortunate.
 @2a70c54d My oldest son has been at his company for 21 years. The company is owned by one guy, Todd, and it is only one of a few in the industry. Todd hired my son when no one else, except fast food, would. My son was a 25 year old high school dropout with a GED. He was a single parent/sole caregiver of a 6 year & 2 year old looking at a grim future. Saying he owes his success, and that of his kids, to Todd, is not much of an overstatement. But there aren't that many "Todds" out there.
