since its very inception, telegram was heavily criticised by "experts" and competitors for its homebrew MTProto encryption.  

Interesting how authorities did not try to shut down or arrest employees of Signal or other trusted messaging apps while they used the "far superior" more trusted DRA encryption protocol that Whatsapp also uses.
