SOFTWAR AUDIOBOOK - Introduction Released https://i.nostr.build/65Rz.jpg Hello everyone, a few weeks ago, I recorded a quick pilot reading of the introductory sections of SOFTWAR. As promised, I've started to release the audiobook as a podcast. You can now listen the official recording of Episode 1 - Introduction, which contains the abstract through the executive summary on Fountain, as a podcast, or on Youtube. Very interesting what’s happening with this book
It's probably the most interesting book in the space, given all of its controversy 😄
I’m curious why it’s controversial?
Well, it's a long story. The way Preston tells it, he was basically found in the wild by Greg Foss, beating up suits on LinkedIn about Bitcoin. Foss said, hey man, if you want to talk Bitcoin, come over to Twitter. So he comes over to Twitter and the first thing he goes and says is, "Bitcoin is violence." And he shows up on Pomp's podcast and waves a gun around, comparing it to Bitcoin. https://i.nostr.build/GyWV.jpg#m=image%2Fjpeg&dim=2400x1080&blurhash=ZRGR_1oh4.W89ERj9aS%25RP%7EqayM%7Ct7Mxs%3AM%7CNGoeNEadWBt8kXNHt5xZR*M%7Bt6s%3Aa%23R.Iot6%251o2&x=8d75e1bbe07505e5d4fe47c950e337a332a81ab4615fb2be44194e77be044536 People didn't like that. Bitcoiners had developed very entrenched ideas about the Peaceful Bitcoin Revolution and libertarian ideas of nonviolence. But Lowery comes from the military and basically speaks a foreign language where "violence" has a very different meaning (he's since switched to using "power projection") that most people find hard to reconcile with their existing ideas of violence, offense, and defense. See, in the military, even defense is violent. Try squaring that circle. But Lowery was at MIT specifically to study the military significance of Bitcoin, and his thesis was extremely interesting and held water for the most part. But people knew him as the "Bitcoin is a gun" dude, so he started off with a lot of haters. He also performed social experiments on Twitter to demonstrate abstract power projection in cyberspace where he systematically blocked people who were mostly likely to complain about it and caused a huge uproar. But the thing is, he always said exactly what he was going to do beforehand. Then he finished his thesis, and while the digital copy was held up by MIT until he graduated, he sold it as a full color textbook on Amazon for a few months. That also became controversial because despite this community's belief in value for value, many people just wanted the PDF. But people bought it anyway and it rose to the top of Amazon's charts in multiple categories and still has a 5 start rating there. Nowadays, he's been gag ordered, allegedly, by the Pentagon. And his book is no longer for sale. And he's dropped off Twitter, but I think he's still active on LinkedIn.
Bitcoin = Bitpower, & Bitpower = Bitcoin. The crucial factor is the protocol's function, not its name. His perspective on using watts to safeguard our digital assets (PoW) is entirely sensible; he's certainly ahead of his time. https://image.nostr.build/3495fb5a7bb7df1015713faad06f8eccdd0b21ff813172ab59fd0aa9e4ae475c.jpg
Absolutely! In my mind Bitcoin is the Jarvis/Vision cyber nanny of all time.
Yeah, I think he intentionally went for the shock and awe effect with the visuals, and his word choice in the beginning was a linguistically occupational hazard being active duty. Being a former service member myself I see Lowery's thesis is very sound, and I cherish my personal printed pdf copy of the book. I think his book could be a manifesto against the sinister moves by individuals like Elizabeth Warren.
Thanks for taking the time to write this out. I knew about most of the story, but not the beginning.
You should turn it into a torrent and put it on nostr 🤔
This book is proof of work Jason Lowery wrote 'Softwar' Here is the PDF version. You can no longer buy this book on amazon https://mega.nz/file/D0hzgCpb#qo07-vUqP-0YkjUKt92ioPNzo08ayEu3RwvWfsXRH8w

Congrats! @[ARCHIVED] Jay can you share the gear/tools you used for this? I have no recording gear. BTW, I followed you on Fountain.fm 🤙🏽✊🏽
Sure, I have been learning and figuring things out as I go. I only have very casual audio recording and engineering experience. I bought a Samson Meteor Mic, Auphonic pop filter, and a boom stand to hold them. The mic is amazing and works perfectly with Audacity on Linux out of the box. I recorded the pilot without the pop filter and you can really hear the difference. I also had to work on my voice a little to relax and get some more resonance out of it so I wouldn't need any post processing like equalization or filtering. I'm recording in my bathroom closet because it's nice and quiet in there. To edit the recordings, I silence out any breaths I take, remove the background noise, adjust the pauses between phrases and sentences to be the same length, and finally compress and normalize to set the right volume. I'm using rss.com to host the podcast and handle the v4v stuff, and it distributes it everywhere else. It takes a little while now to get from start to finish, but I hope to get faster with time.
Very awesome! Thanks for sharing
How did you post onto fountain?
You have to host the podcast on something like rss.com, distribute it, and then claim the show on fountain. https://rss.com/blog/understanding-value-for-value-earn-bitcoin-from-your-podcast/ https://support.fountain.fm/article/56-how-to-claim-your-show-on-fountain

Thanks! I'll get fountain working asap. I was thinking there was something up with it.
Thanks for this Jay! I've always wanted to read this but had no time. Podcast form is 👌
You're welcome! I've also always wanted an audiobook version, and I decided to make a version that I myself would listen to. I hope you like it. And I hope I get it out in a timely fashion. I like the podcast release because it's like the freest possible way to spread it. I've also got a torrent out on dtan.xyz

Most likely an hour's worth of listening a week. Faster if I can since I'm off work right now.
How do I bookmark this for later? How do I jump share this? I am so noob.
