Any tips on how to test this type of electric mesh fence? I have an energizer. Is it worth the hassle?

Trying to use what I have to create a temporary deer fence.

 Touch it
 FTW
This was also my answer lol
I knew you would have the answer.
Hmm, dont know about deer. I use that for the chicken run, not energized. Might be to short to keep deer out?
Yeah. Trying to be frugal, but probably a bad idea.
I think it was on spirko's show, I heard putting peanut butter on foil hung on the fence gets the deer to get shocked, and they don't want to jump it or go near it ever again
 Good plan
You can purchase an electric fence tester from rural supply stores
Deer don’t like to jump blind, but if they know they can land the jump they’ll do it.
It won’t stop them because they can see over it and know what’s on the other side. If you put it at an angle, or put a second row of the same fence closeby, it plays with tier depth perception.
If there is an established trail, and they see the established trail, forget it. They’ll remember that they can make the jump because they probably helped beat down that path.
Also. If they’re jumping they won’t be grounded they first time they touch it, so if you simply must use that fence then you have to train them to it. Maybe some tinfoil with peanut butter smeared on it. Shock the crap out of them so they know that specific fence is spicy.
Thanks. I'm just trying to use materials I already have. It isn't ideal. I may just get some pencil posts and individually fence the trees.
Even tack pencil posts onto those posts and then put streamers above that fence. Just something to disorient them, and make them believe they can’t jump it. I’ve seen deer jump an 8 foot fence easy if the path is clear, and I’ve seen them turned aside by a 4 foot fence if the landing is odd.
 Good idea. Thanks again.
If you set it up, bait it with some peanut butter and turn it on, they will lick it and then steer clear
If you want to keep deer out of your yard, try spreading human hair trimmings all around your yard. The human oils could be enough as an odiferous barrier, or at least round that which you want protected.
 Or use predator urine.
Looks like you have enough room for a motion activated sprinkler.
If you want to keep deer off of new trees, you can make a deer repellent from eggs and milk. Beat a couple of eggs together with a cup of milk, add to a gallon of water and mix thoroughly. Cover and let it sit outside somewhere warm (not in a sealed container, though - it will pressurize and explode if you do that) for a day. It will stink, but if you paint or spray it on your trees, it's pretty effective at keeping the deer away. After it dries for a day or two, the odor subsides below the human threshold, but animals can still smell it. Putrefied eggs are the main ingredient in commercial deer/rabbit repellents like Liquid Fence.

You can add cayenne pepper or garlic (or both) to enhance its effectiveness, also.

In my experience, deer require a multi-pronged approach to control. Barriers, repellents, and startle mechanisms are all part of the equation.
 Thank you
There's a few easy methods. First off, good luck stopping deer with that. They'll probably jump over it. Scent caps may help....maybe.
As for testing voltage, make sure your energizer is grounded good enough first. Ideally you have a volt meter for fences to check it, but if not....
Take an insulated jumper with the clips, connect one end to a short steel spike, fence, etc: a decent ground of some kind, not the energizer ground rod. Move the other clip towards the energized fence and try to watch for a spark. It should jump at least 1/4" from the wire to the clip. the same method can be used with a steel spike on a fence post (with an INSULTED grip).
If the wire isn't chewed up, it's probably physically okay. Not much else to check really.
