Deer don’t like to jump blind, but if they know they can land the jump they’ll do it.
It won’t stop them because they can see over it and know what’s on the other side. If you put it at an angle, or put a second row of the same fence closeby, it plays with tier depth perception.
If there is an established trail, and they see the established trail, forget it. They’ll remember that they can make the jump because they probably helped beat down that path.
Also. If they’re jumping they won’t be grounded they first time they touch it, so if you simply must use that fence then you have to train them to it. Maybe some tinfoil with peanut butter smeared on it. Shock the crap out of them so they know that specific fence is spicy.
Thanks. I'm just trying to use materials I already have. It isn't ideal. I may just get some pencil posts and individually fence the trees.
Even tack pencil posts onto those posts and then put streamers above that fence. Just something to disorient them, and make them believe they can’t jump it. I’ve seen deer jump an 8 foot fence easy if the path is clear, and I’ve seen them turned aside by a 4 foot fence if the landing is odd.
 Good idea. Thanks again.
